The Coronado Islanders fell victim to the Scripps Ranch Falcons''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Falcons 51-0. While losing is never fun, Coronado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 684th, while Scripps Ranch is ranked 213th).
Rodolfo Sanchez threw for 69 yards on six of 19 attempts. Graham Bower was his top target, picking up 35 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
Coronado are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Scripps Ranch, Mission Bay, and Crawford. As for Scripps Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will take on Patrick Henry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
