The Sacred Heart Knights put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Southeast of Saline with a sharp 60-36 victory. That looming 60-36 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Sacred Heart yet this season.
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Omar Calzada, who scored nine points along with three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenton Leeds, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Southeast of Saline struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sacred Heart pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Southeast of Saline, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Sacred Heart and Thomas More Prep-Marian will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Southeast of Saline will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Minneapolis at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Minneapolis will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Southeast of Saline is ranked 105th).
