Gallia Academy is 2-8 against Dawson-Bryant since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will square off against the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. Gallia Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Gallia Academy proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Rock Hill 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Devils sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Chloe Bennett made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Angel, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double. Braylee Fellure also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dawson-Bryant, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Rock Hill on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Like Gallia Academy, Dawson-Bryant also got a great game from a two-way player: Rylee Bare. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Bare was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Izzy Kitts was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Shayanna Collins, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Dawson-Bryant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Dawson-Bryant's record now sits at 10-11. As for Gallia Academy, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gallia Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Dawson-Bryant struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gallia Academy couldn't quite get it done against Dawson-Bryant when the teams last played back in April as they fell 11-7. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
