The River Valley Panthers will square off against the Central Cambria Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. River Valley will be strutting in after a win while Central Cambria will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, River Valley turned things around against Purchase Line on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Red Dragons.
The team relied heavily on Hayden Haight, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Michael Wano was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
River Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Central Cambria's offense. They lost 10-0 to Westmont Hilltop on Monday. The Red Devils' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Central Cambria also got a good showing from Alex Wingard, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wingard also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Red Devils are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise.
Central Cambria's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for River Valley, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-13.
River Valley's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Central Cambria, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will River Valley continue to outrun the ball?
