The Classical Purple will face off against the Ponaganset Chieftains at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are still undefeated (Classical has seven wins dating back to last season, while Ponaganset has six).
Classical is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 41-0 win over Pilgrim. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Purple with their most commanding win of the season.
The critical scores for Classical came from Coby Tavares, Tahmeed Moshood, Josiah Nyakoon, Silas Mckay, Bam Adebayo, and Curtis Briggs.
Meanwhile, while Ponaganset put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Rogers. The Chieftains blew past the Vikings, posting a 40-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chieftains, who have now won three contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Ponaganset found their leader in sophomore Zachari Rocchio, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Ponaganset was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 367 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Ponaganset's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Ethan Lemanski and Daniel Cellucci, who racked up four sacks between them. Another thorn in Rogers' side was Rocchio, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Ponaganset's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Classical, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-0.
Classical lost to Ponaganset on the road by a decisive 28-13 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Purple avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
