MaxPreps 2012 Small Schools All-American Football Team

When selecting the MaxPreps Small Schools All-American coach and player of the year, all that needed to be done was go to the top of the list.

Found at the top of the national passing yardage list is Will Grier, the Davidson Day junior quarterback who led the nation in passing yardage with 5,785 yards and also set an unofficial national record with 837 yards in one game. His performance this year at the North Carolina private school was enough to gain him North Carolina All-State first team honors by the Associated Press.

Found at the top of the national rankings are the Curtis Patriots and their coach J.T. Curtis. In finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the country by nearly every ranking service, Curtis pulled off a rare feat by a school that plays in the one of the smallest enrollment divisions in the state of Louisiana.

Along the way, coach Curtis won his 25th state championship in 44 years at the school. The Patriots have reached the state finals each of the past 17 years and they currently have a 28-game win streak with back-to-back state titles. Curtis also ranks second all-time in career wins in national high school football history with a record of 520-54-6.

The MaxPreps Small Schools All-American team consists of players chosen from schools that play in state enrollment divisions that generally have less than 1,000 students.

2012 MaxPreps Small Schools All-American Football Team

First Team Offense

WR – Corey Robinson, 6-4, 195, San Antonio Christian (Texas), Senior
A TAPPS All-State player and a member of the San Antonio News Express All-Area Team, Robinson was a U.S. Army All-American and caught 67 passes for 1,414 yards and 20 touchdowns. He is committed to Notre Dame and the son of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson.

WR – Jordan Cunningham, 6-1, 175, University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Senior
Cunningham was named to the Florida Class 3A All-State Team and was also selected to the Sun-Sentinel All-Palm County Small Schools Team. An Under Armour All-American, Cunningham caught 53 passes for 817 yards and eight touchdowns for the 3A state champions.

WR – Jonathan Howard, 6-4, 181, Wilcox County (Rochelle, Ga.), Senior
A Class A All-State player, Howard set a Georgia state record with 1,630 yards receiving on 115 catches with 17 touchdowns. He is committed to North Carolina.

TE – Johnny Mundt, 6-4, 225, Central Catholic (Modesto, Calif.), Senior
The Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Mundt led the Raiders to a California Division IV state championship while catching 33 passes for 625 yards and eight touchdowns. The Oregon commit was also a standout on defense with 80 tackles and 15.5 sacks.

OL – Ira Denson, 6-4, 320, Madison County (Madison, Fla.), Senior
Denson landed a spot on the Florida 3A All-State Team and also earned mention on the Tallahassee All-Big Bend Team. Denson, a Florida State commit, played in the Under Armour All-American Game

OL – R.J. Prince, 6-6, 285, Albemarle (N.C.), Senior
Prince, a North Carolina commit, was named to the Associated Press All-State Team as well as the NCPreps All-State Team and Class 1A All-State Team.

OL – D.J. Park, 6-5, 305, Dillon (S.C.), Senior
Park played in the Semper Fidelis All-American Game and was also selected All-State by the High School Sports Report while leading Dillon to a state championship. He is committed to South Carolina.

OL – Rob Boyd, 6-4, 285, Vian (Okla.), Senior
Boyd made first team All-State by the Oklahoma City Oklahoman while leading his team to the Class 2A semifinals. A four-year starter at Vian, he is committed to Tulsa.

OL – Josh Thomas, 6-7, 321, Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, La.), Senior
Named to the Class 2A All-State team, Thomas was also named All-City by the Shreveport Times after helping lead his team to the 2A state championship game. He is committed to Houston.

QB – Matt Bodamer, 6-1, 175, Port Allegany (Pa.), Senior
The Pennsylvania Football News and Gatorade named Bodamer the State Player of the Year after he became the state's career yardage leader with 10,948 yards. This year he completed 227 of 323 passes for 3,951 yards and 52 touchdowns.

QB – Will Grier, 6-3, 185, Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.), Junior
Besides earning first team All-State honors by the Associated Press, Grier led the nation in passing yardage and touchdowns with 5,785 yards (324 of 414) with 69 touchdowns. The Florida commit also set an unofficial national record with 837 yards in one game against Harrells Christian Academy.

RB – Jacob Taylor, 5-11, 173, Rim of the World (Lake Arrowhead, Calif.), Senior
Taylor finished second in the nation in rushing yardage with 4,036 yards on 416 carries with 57 touchdowns. He helped Rim of the World win a Southern Section championship and was named to the All-Inland Valley Team by the Riverside Press Enterprise. He rushed for more than 300 yards eight times and scored at least five touchdowns five times.

RB – Damien Haskins, 5-9, 213, New Boston (Texas), Senior
The Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year in Texas, Haskins led the state in rushing with 3,207 yards on 288 carries. He also scored 52 touchdowns on the year and is committed to Oregon State.

RB – Kelvin Taylor, 5-10, 205, Glades Day (Belle Glade, Fla.), Senior
Taylor ranks among the all-time rushing leaders in high school history with 12,019 yards in five seasons at Glades Day. He was the Sun Sentinel Small Schools Player of the Year for Broward County and he was the Class 2A Florida Dairy Farmers Player of the Year. He also earned Class 2A All-State honors and played in the Under Armour All-American Game. The Florida commit also had 192 career touchdowns and rushed for 2,423 yards and 41 touchdowns this season.

AP – Ardarius Stewart, 6-1, 185, Fultondale (Birmingham, Ala.), Senior
The Metro Player of the Year by the Birmingham News, Stewart was also a Class 2A All-State player after scoring 52 touchdowns on passes, runs and returns. For his career he has 138 total touchdowns and he rushed for 1,988 yards this year. Stewart is committed to Alabama.

K – Greg Joseph, 6-1, 195, American Heritage (Delray Beach, Fla.), Senior
Joseph was named to the Class 3A All-State Team and the Sun-Sentinel All-County Team, and booted 10 of 12 field goals, including a 46-yarder, and was 52 of 54 on extra points. He also had 89 percent of his kickoffs go for touchbacks.
