Herriman has gone 8-1 against Pleasant Grove recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. Herriman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Herriman's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Layton 16-0. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won five in a row.
Sierra Prescott tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddy Maxfield, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. McKenzie Quintero was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Herriman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove faced Westlake in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Thunder 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Keslie Draney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Maya Parry was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
The win got Herriman back to even at 8-8. As for Pleasant Grove, their record is now 14-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Herriman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Herriman couldn't quite finish off Pleasant Grove in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
