Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact the Crystal River Pirates proved on Friday. They walked away with a 61-49 victory over Citrus. The win made it back-to-back wins for Crystal River.
Crystal River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ej Jenkins led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jenkins is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Zachary Hamilton was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 5 assists.
Despite the loss, Citrus still got an impressive performance from Landon Hensley, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Villanueva, who scored 12 points.
Crystal River now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Citrus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crystal River and Lecanto will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Lecanto focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday. As for Citrus, they will head out on the road to face off against Weeki Wachee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Weeki Wachee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
