Football Recap: St. Joseph Catholic Skates Past St. Joseph with Ease

There's no place like home for St. Joseph Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They breezed past the St. Joseph Fighting Irish to the tune of 49-21 on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Bruins just coasted through the last quarter.

St. Joseph Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Syrone McBeath, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also picked up 95 receiving yards and one score. McBeath's longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards. Aj Harris was another key player, gaining 201 total yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Joseph Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.

St. Joseph's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Victor Baker, who rushed for 19 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 138 yards and one touchdown. 81 of those passing yards were hauled in by Jaleel Moore, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

St. Joseph Catholic's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for St. Joseph, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Catholic will challenge Magnolia Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins will need to watch out since the Chiefs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for St. Joseph, they will face off against Jackson Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
