Hillcrest hasn't had much luck against Murray recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Huskies will take on the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. Hillcrest will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Hillcrest took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Tooele, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies skirted past the Buffaloes 15-13.
Bailey Terry was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Emily Mandel also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Hillcrest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .525. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Murray came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Stallions.
Savana Whitlock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maddie Bigelow, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. She is also on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Brooklyn Rowley was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Murray's record is now 7-5. As for Hillcrest, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hillcrest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like Murray struggles in that department as they've averaged .472. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hillcrest couldn't quite get it done against Murray when the teams last played back in March as they fell 11-6. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
