The Riverside Beavers will square off against the Mayfield Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Riverside managed to slip by North the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Beavers came up short against the Rangers on Friday, falling 11-3. The Beavers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Austin Wittreich was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Baker, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mayfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Jackson on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Polar Bears by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.
Christophe Alexander put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Mayfield got a good showing from Dom Prince, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Prince has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Alexander wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was JD Sega, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases.
Mayfield's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Riverside, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Riverside couldn't quite finish off Mayfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Beavers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
