The Hyde Park Panthers suffered their biggest defeat since December 2, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 69-47 loss at the hands of Texas Lions HomeSchool. While losing is never fun, Hyde Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1083rd, while Texas Lions HomeSchool is ranked 349th).
Hyde Park lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Knox Riemondi, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Ryan Jones, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Texas Lions HomeSchool got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Legend Durst out in front who scored 16 points along with three steals. Durst has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jon Hadnot, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Hyde Park's loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 9-14. As for Texas Lions HomeSchool, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-7.
Hyde Park will be playing at home against South Austin W at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. South Austin W has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 18. Texas Lions HomeSchool on the road again on Thursday and play against Aggieland HomeSchool at 5:45 p.m. on January 11th. Aggieland HomeSchool is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
