After a string of four wins, the Columbus Cardinals's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 65-53 to Flatonia. Columbus was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Flatonia apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2020.
Despite the defeat, Columbus saw an underclassman step up: Thea Schobel scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Mathis, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Columbus' defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-4. As for Flatonia, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
Columbus is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Rice Consolidated at 6:15 p.m. on December 12th. Rice Consolidated will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1460th, while Columbus is ranked 557th). As for Flatonia, they will be playing at home against Louise at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Louise focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
