The Gentry Rams on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Greenville Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Gentry suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Saturday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 73-47 to Edwards, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Gentry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Edwards is ranked 44th).
Meanwhile, Greenville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 67-34 loss at the hands of Holmes County Central. Greenville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-20.
Despite their defeat, Greenville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Micheal Hodges, who scored six points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. That's the first time this season that Hodges grabbed two or more steals.
Gentry has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Greenville, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Gentry was able to grind out a solid win over Greenville in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 69-60. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Greenville's Le'Kinton McNeil Jr, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Gentry to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
