Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Cathedral

Cathedral had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the New Mexico Military Institute Colts.

Cathedral got a great performance from Derek Armendariz as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance gave Armendariz a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kevin Jurado, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Julian Escalante, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Cathedral's victory bumped their record up to 13-5-1. As for New Mexico Military Institute, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Cathedral will head out to challenge Tornillo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cathedral's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Tornillo's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for New Mexico Military Institute, they will host Shiprock at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
