The Giles Spartans will challenge the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Giles' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Bland County 14-0. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Josiah Schlueter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Giles: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brier Underwood, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Giles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Eastern Montgomery got the win against Parry McCluer on Thursday by a conclusive 13-3.
Coltin Conner and Caleb Jones were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Conner didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Jones pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Conner went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Jones got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Owen Keith was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Mason Phoenix was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Giles' victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Eastern Montgomery, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Giles has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eastern Montgomery struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Giles might still be hurting after the 10-2 loss they got from Eastern Montgomery in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
