The Toppenish Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 24 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 67-11 blowout they got at home against Wahluke. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-6.
Toppenish's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyra Hurley led the charge by scoring ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. Jadalyn Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Toppenish pushed their record up to 5-4 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Wahluke, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Toppenish will take on Naches Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Naches Valley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Toppenish in Washington (Naches Valley is ranked 34th, while Toppenish is ranked 113th). Wahluke is on the road again on Friday and play against College Place at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th.
