The Thomas Stone Cougars were the 57-40 winner over the Leonardtown Raiders when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Thomas Stone was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 55-54 to Leonardtown.
When it comes to explaining why Thomas Stone lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jonas Agyeman. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Ty Woodland, who scored seven points along with 17 rebounds.
Leonardtown was led to victory by Elijah Miller and Darius Searles. Miller scored 15 points, while Searles scored ten points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Searles hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Windell, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Thomas Stone's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Leonardtown, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Stone's road trip will continue as they head out to face North Point at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. North Point is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Leonardtown, they will head out on the road to take on Model Secondary School for the Deaf at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
