Westlake pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Thomas Stone. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Westlake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darian Canty, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Melvin Newman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Ty Woodland and Jonas Agyeman certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Woodland dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Agyeman scored 22 points along with five assists. That was a full 38.6% of Thomas Stone's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Brown, who scored six points.
Westlake's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Thomas Stone, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westlake will take on Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Mills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Thomas Stone, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Calvert at 6:30 p.m. Calvert is coming into the game with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Thomas Stone will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
