It was a good run, but the St. Helens Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They suffered a tough 54-32 loss at the hands of Newport. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Helens has scored all season.
St. Helens' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Cox, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Aaron Liebelt was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
St. Helens' loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Newport, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
St. Helens won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Madras at 12:00 p.m. on December 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oregon (Madras is ranked 142nd, while St. Helens is ranked 165th). Newport will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Riverdale at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th.
