Grand Valley hasn't had much luck against North Fork recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will take on the Miners at 2:00 p.m. Grand Valley has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, Grand Valley came up short against Nucla and fell 17-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (11), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.
Tomas Satterfield made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Tyden Richardson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Fork entered their tilt with Rangely on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Panthers. The Miners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.
Payson Pene made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because North Fork is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Pene was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Konnor Crawford looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mario Gama was incredible, going 2-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Payson Miller also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Grand Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for North Fork, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Grand Valley suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to North Fork in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
