The Hubbard Eagles will take on the West Branch Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hubbard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Hubbard came up short against Cardinal Mooney and fell 5-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hubbard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layla Songer, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, West Branch posted their closest victory since April 24, 2025 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Salem.
Ellie Tucker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carly Loper was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elly Biskup, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
West Branch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-3 when they post 11 or more hits.
Hubbard's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for West Branch, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hubbard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like West Branch struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
