The Copper Canyon Aztecs suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Kofa by a score of 40-37. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Copper Canyon of the 40-39 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Copper Canyon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bri'ann Felix, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Felix is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zalaya Dupre, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Copper Canyon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Copper Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Kofa, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-7.
Copper Canyon will head out on the road to square off against Buckeye at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Buckeye will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Kofa, Kofa and Gila Ridge will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gila Ridge's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Kofa's offense will have their work cut out for them.
