Desert Mountain hasn't had much luck against Notre Dame Prep recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Grant Garduno looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since March 3rd.
On the hitting side, James Campbell was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cole Sonne, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Desert Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Pointe struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep faced Canyon View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Saints fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 3-2. The Saints have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Notre Dame Prep also got a good showing from Sam Jenkins, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Aidan Martinez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Notre Dame Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Desert Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
