Clarksdale (Miss.) beat
Lake Cormorant (Miss.) 28-9 after a solid game from
Juantavius Gray, who rushed for four touchdowns. Thanks to the stand out performance the senior now has 16 touchdowns on the season.
Lake Cormorant pulled ahead on a field goal by
Rene Sanchez, and subsequently went into halftime leading 10-6. The Wildcats scored the winning points with a Gray touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Clarksdale still trailed by four points going into the fourth quarter. But 21 points in the fourth helped CHS pull out the victory.
The Wildcats didn't regain the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Gray ran for a touchdown.
Lake Cormorant's only touchdown came on a 58-yard pass from
Bailey Walker to
Ryan Golden in the first quarter.
Clarksdale has struggled this season, allowing 34.4 points per game. But CHS tightened up and held LC well below its season average of 31.7 points per game.
The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which Lake Cormorant took, 47-7.
The defeat comes as a step back for Lake Cormorant, which notched a 47-28 victory over Center Hill in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for the Wildcats, who lost to Oxford last week, 47-12. The victory snapped Clarksdale's two-game losing streak.
Clarksdale (5-4) will play a 5A Region 1 game against Center Hill next week, while Lake Cormorant (6-4) will take on Oxford also in a 5A Region 1 game.
