Basketball Recap: Faith Baptist School Takes a Loss

Faith Baptist School played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Holly Grove Christian Eagles, falling 56-19. The contest marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kiersten Yates HS, who posted four points and three steals. Yates HS has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played.

Holly Grove Christian was led to victory by Samantha Porter and Abby Pruitt. Porter dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards, while Pruitt went 6 for 14 on her way to 15 points and seven steals. The dominant performance also gave Porter a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Cate Sterling, who had eight points.

This is the second loss in a row for Faith Baptist School and nudges their season record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-0 Calvary Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 84.4% over those games). As for Holly Grove Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Faith Baptist School and Holly Grove Christian's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Faith Baptist School and Greenwood Mennonite (who has only given up 28.75 points per game) will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Holly Grove Christian will face off against Calvary Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, a team that's only allowed 22.77 points per game.
