The Howard Huskies 's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Westside at home by a decisive 63-44 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Howard in their matchups with Westside: they've now lost nine in a row.
Westside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marcus Hood led the charge by scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hood has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chauncey Williams, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Westside, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Howard will take on Griffin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Griffin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Howard in Georgia (Griffin is ranked 189th, while Howard is ranked 383rd). Westside on the road again on Tuesday and play against Baldwin at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. One thing working in Baldwin's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
