The Bowie Bears pushed their score all the way to 42 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 66-42 defeat at the hands of Riverside. It was the first time this season that Bowie let down their fans at home.
Derek Vasquez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 98 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 240 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Noah Ramirez was another key contributor, rushing for 214 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.7 yards per carry.
Bowie's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Riverside, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bowie will challenge Estacado at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Estacado presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bowie in Texas (Estacado is ranked 180th, while Bowie is ranked 913th). As for Riverside, they will head out on the road to face off against Big Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
