Baseball Recap: Freedom Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday, Freedom came back down to earth. The Patriots fell just short of the Northampton Konkrete Kids by a score of 13-11 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Konkrete Kids this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-14 on April 14th.

Darien Serrano put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Colin Andrews made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Freedom: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nate Warren, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Freedom has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Northampton, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.

Freedom wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Southern Lehigh on the 2nd. As for Northampton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-7 defeat against Parkland on the 1st.
