Serrano hasn't had much luck against Apple Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks will look to defend their home field against the Sun Devils at 3:15 p.m. Apple Valley took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Serrano, who comes in off a win.
On Tuesday, Serrano made easy work of Notre Dame and carried off a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Diamondbacks, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Lilliana Gutierrez and Wendy Arauz did most of the damage at the plate: Gutierrez went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Arauz went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Arauz has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Moore, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Riverside Prep hit Apple Valley with a eight-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Sun Devils came up short against the Silver Knights, falling 12-2.
Apple Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allyssa Purser, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Serrano's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Apple Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Serrano hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Serrano might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Apple Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Diamondbacks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
