After a string of four wins, the Sulphur Bluff Bears's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Saltillo 54-49. Sulphur Bluff was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Saltillo apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Sulphur Bluff lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matthew Overly. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with five assists and two steals. Overly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games he's played. Dakota Klemptner was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Sulphur Bluff's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-9. As for Saltillo, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 16-15 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Bloomburg the next time they take the court. Sulphur Bluff will head out to face Bloomburg at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Saltillo will host them at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
