Basketball Recap: Domonik Villa Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Santa Rita

Benson won the last time they faced Santa Rita and things went their way on Thursday too. The Benson Bobcats took down the Santa Rita Eagles 71-54.

Benson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Domonik Villa, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Villa a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Judd, who went 8 of 12 en route to 19 points along with eight boards and six assists.

Benson was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Rita only racked up 11 assists.

Santa Rita's loss came despite strong showings from David Gonzales and Kamran Shaya Alavi. Gonzales posted 15 points in addition to eight assists and eight rebounds, while Alavi went 7 for 15 on his way to 21 points. The match was Gonzales' third in a row with at least ten points. Vernon Johnson JR was another key player, putting up seven points and five steals.

Benson's record is now 7-15. As for Santa Rita, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-9.

Benson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-24 victory against St. Augustine Catholic on the 21st. As for Santa Rita, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-37 defeat against Bisbee on the 20th.
