The North Moore Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Freedom Christian Academy Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
North Moore is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Seaforth on Saturday. They lost 11-1 to the Hawks. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
North Moore saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Carre, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Freedom Christian Academy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four last Friday. They blew past the Eagles 17-3. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.
Eli Corney made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Freedom Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Christian Alleman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Alleman has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Graysen Stafford, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Freedom Christian Academy pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for North Moore, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. North Moore has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Freedom Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went North Moore's way against Freedom Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as North Moore made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
