The Proctor Academy Hornets will challenge the Vermont Academy Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Proctor Academy will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Holderness on Wednesday. The Hornets blew past the Bulls 11-1.
Jack Read was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Read was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Wyatt Dodge was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Joe Neilon, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Proctor Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Vermont Academy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 13-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Proctor Academy, Vermont Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Milo Tucker. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Tucker was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Lucas Sinacola and Logan Sinacola did most of the damage at the plate: Lucas scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Logan scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Eli Boxer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Vermont Academy pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Proctor Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
