Portsmouth West and South Webster are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Portsmouth West Senators will head out on the road to take on the South Webster Jeeps at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Portsmouth West is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
While Portsmouth West couldn't quite beat Minford on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 20-point loss they were dealt last Tuesday. Portsmouth West fell just short of Minford by a score of 54-52. Portsmouth West has struggled against Minford recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, South Webster strolled past Federal Hocking with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 63-47. Given South Webster's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Federal Hocking is ranked 375th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eli Roberts continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. Tyler Sommer was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Portsmouth West has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for South Webster, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.
Portsmouth West might still be hurting after the 59-36 loss they got from South Webster in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Portsmouth West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
