The Bishop Snyder Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the St. Johns Country Day Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Snyder is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Bishop Snyder will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Bradford, who they had gone 0-8 against in their eight prior meetings. Bishop Snyder walked away with a 6-2 victory over Bradford on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Cardinals sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Caitlyn Boshell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Boshell wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Gotto, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Gabriella Rogers also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Johns Country Day came up short against Peniel Baptist Academy on Tuesday and fell 9-6.
Emery Schneider and Gabi Oceguera stepped up to the plate in a big way. Schneider scored three runs and stole a base, while Oceguera went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Bishop Snyder's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs over those games. As for St. Johns Country Day, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Snyder hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like St. Johns Country Day struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Snyder came up short against St. Johns Country Day in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 11-8. Can Bishop Snyder avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
