Baseball Recap: Deer Park Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Deer Park had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 12-3 margin over the Rogers Pirates on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Stags in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won three in a row.

RJ Gillaspy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gillaspy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Bruner, who scored a run and stole Two bases.

Deer Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rogers only managed seven hits.

Rogers is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Deer Park will look to defend their home field on Saturday against North Central at 12:00 p.m. As for Rogers, they will take on West Valley at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
