The Smith Center Redmen will head out on the road to face off against the Superior Wildcats on Monday. Hopefully Smith Center is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in their respective states (the Redmen are ranked 22nd in Kansas, while the Wildcats are ranked 96th in Nebraska).
After a string of five wins, Smith Center's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a tough 55-34 defeat at the hands of Thomas More Prep-Marian. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Smith Center has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Superior was able to grind out a solid win over the Jeffs on Thursday, taking the game 34-25.
Smith Center's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2. As for Superior, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Smith Center was able to grind out a solid win over the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 70-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Smith Center since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
