Basketball Game Preview: Tonopah Muckers vs. Indian Springs Thunderbirds

The Tonopah Muckers will challenge the Indian Springs Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both have allowed few points on average, (Tonopah: 27.1, Indian Springs: 24.8) so any points scored will be well earned.

Last Saturday, Tonopah was able to grind out a solid victory over Beatty, taking the game 42-31.

Tonopah got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trinity Blackburn out in front who posted eight points along with ten boards and three steals. Blackburn is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Mauer, who scored nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Tonopah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Indian Springs entered their tilt with Mountain View Christian on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Saints 75-12. The Thunderbirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 26 points or more this season.

Indian Springs has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.0 points per game. As for Tonopah, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Tonopah might still be hurting after the 43-19 loss they got from Indian Springs in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Tonopah avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
