After four games on the road, Cahokia is heading back home. They will take on the Carbondale Terriers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cahokia has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Cahokia lost a heartbreaker to Mahomet-Seymour when they met back in November of 2016, and they left with a heavy heart again on Saturday. The match between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Cahokia falling 72-55. They have struggled against Mahomet-Seymour recently, as their match on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Donald Collier, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zion Taylor, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Carbondale unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 59-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Centralia. While losing is never fun, Carbondale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Centralia is ranked sixth).
Despite the defeat, Carbondale had strong showings from Jaxon Marlow-evans, who scored 17 points, and Decarl Payne, who scored 19 points. Payne scored a full 39.6% of Carbondale's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The losses dropped Cahokia to 0-4 and Mahomet-Seymour to 1-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Cahokia have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 36.5% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Carbondale, though, as they've only made 0% of theirs this season. Given Cahokia's sizeable advantage in that area, Carbondale will need to find a way to close that gap. Cahokia came up short against Carbondale in their previous meeting back in January, falling 54-50. Can Cahokia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
