The Lewis Cass Kings will face off against the Southwood Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lewis Cass will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 13 points last Friday, then bounced right back against Wabash on Friday. The Kings claimed a resounding 42-7 win over the Apaches. The Kings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 35 points or more this season.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Gavin Smith and Tyler Grist. Smith rushed for 159 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries while Grist rushed for 104 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries. Grist's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Lewis Cass proved: they limited Wabash to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Kyland Magers for the heroic effort on defense: he. Lewis Cass didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwood). They were the clear victors by a 30-6 margin over Whitko on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.
Lewis Cass better keep an eye on Maddox Marshall. He was instrumental in Southwood's win, rushing for 100 yards on only 11 carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards and one TD. They are undefeated when Marshall posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 0-5 otherwise.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Southwood's defense and their three sacks. Keaton Frieden was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Marshall got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Southwood's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Lewis Cass, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Lewis Cass strolled past Southwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 41-22. Do the Kings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
