Mullins has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Cheraw Braves in a holiday battle at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Mullins has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Mullins has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 28 points or more this season. They took their contest at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 81-34 win over Latta. The score was close at the half, but Mullins pulled away in the second half with 48 points.
Mullins relied on the efforts of Deyon Ford, who scored 18 points along with six assists, and JJ Davis, who scored 21 points. The game was Ford's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Dakarai Worley was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cheraw came up short against York Prep on Tuesday and fell 58-51. Cheraw has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Cheraw saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. De'Shaun Drake, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Carraway, who scored 11 points.
Mullins' win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.92 points. As for Cheraw, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Mullins have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 44.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Cheraw struggles in that department as they've only made 33.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Mullins against Cheraw in their previous meeting back in November as the squad secured a 82-36 win. Does Mullins have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cheraw turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
