After flying high against the Rampart Rams last Wednesday, the Cherokee Trail Cougars came back down to earth. Cherokee Trail fell 74-67 to Central on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Cherokee Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 81st in Colorado, while Central is ranked first in Wyoming).
Despite the loss, Cherokee Trail still got an impressive performance from Braylen Thomas, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Thomas has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Naode Ghide, who scored 13 points.
Cherokee Trail's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-7. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Central, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Cherokee Trail will be playing in front of their home fans against Grandview at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Central, they will head out on the road to challenge South at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. South comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
