The Mackay Miners were handed a three-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against the American Heritage Patriots on Saturday. Mackay blew past American Heritage 58-34. Mackay pushed the score to 54-24 by the end of the third, a deficit American Heritage cut but never quite recovered from.
Mackay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jesse Barger out in front who scored 18 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Barger scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kaizer Summers, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Mackay used a slightly different lineup for their bout with American Heritage. And. Barger made the most of the opportunity, scoring 18 points along with two steals. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
The win got Mackay back to even at 9-9. As for American Heritage, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-14.
Mackay and Watersprings will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Watersprings and Mackay are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. American Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
