Natalia and Lytle are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out to take on the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Natalia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Natalia and Hondo meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Mustangs took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Owls. The Mustangs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Natalia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Selyene Gallegos, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lytle came out on top against Crystal City on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Javelinas 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since February 20th.
Claire Canales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaycee Galindo, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Lytle has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Natalia, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Natalia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Lytle struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Natalia was able to grind out a solid win over Lytle in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 9-4. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
