Herriman gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Layton Lancers. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Mason Greeno looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Carson Jones was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayson Thomas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Layton is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Coming up, Herriman will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Viewmont at 3:00 p.m. As for Layton, they will head out on the road to face off against Bingham at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
