Basketball Recap: West Craven's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

West Craven needed a changed in momentum after dropping five straight games and they got it from Jimmie West Lll. The West Craven Eagles came out on top against the Ayden - Grifton Chargers by a score of 63-53 on Friday thanks in part to West Lll, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 boards. West Lll is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least ten every time he's taken the court this season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Cherry Jr, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the most boards he has posted since back in December of 2023.

Ayden - Grifton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Sutton, who posted 11 points. Hatteras Jenkins was another key player, putting up ten points.

West Craven's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Ayden - Grifton, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

West Craven wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-45 victory against North Edgecombe on the 14th. As for Ayden - Grifton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 83-45 win against North Lenoir on the 16th.
