Softball Recap: Greene County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Bay

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greene County). Everything went their way against the Bay Tigers on Thursday as the Greene County Wildcats made off with a 17-1 victory. The Wildcats have beaten the Tigers the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.

Addie Tungett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Greene County got a massive performance out of Lillian Rau, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Rau a new career-high in runs. Shanna Johnson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2.

Greene County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Greene County pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.4 hits in those games compared to only 5.25 in the others. As for Bay, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Coming up, Greene County will square off against Enterprise at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bay, they will take on Biloxi at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bay has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
