Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Stafford's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

While Stafford put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Fort Bend Willowridge. The Spartans blew past the Eagles 18-0. Considering the Spartans have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jovaughna Mendez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Mendez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Nayeli Rebuelta was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Genasis Mendez, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

Stafford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Stafford is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Fort Bend Willowridge, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coincidentally, Stafford and Fort Bend Willowridge will both be playing Sealy the next time they take the field. The Spartans will head out to face the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Eagles will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
