Capital is 2-8 against Rocky Mountain since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Grizzlies at 6:30 p.m.
Capital is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Ridgevue, falling 12-4.
Brady Ruzicka was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Maddox Weight, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mountain had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Lincoln Mathis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jackson Wendt was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Harrison, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Rocky Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Borah only posted an OBP of .053.
Capital's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Rocky Mountain, their record now sits at 17-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Capital has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Capital couldn't quite get it done against Rocky Mountain when the teams last played back in March as they fell 5-1. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
